Artist statement

Dear friends, and enemies, dear likers and haters!
I know every one of you is used to see art works at this site. Today, before publishing any art work, or even before being able to sit down to create I was pushed to the edge. I had to make a statement. As some of you follow me on different social medias, I would like you to know it is not personal, it is general. We study long years at the academy to get our degrees. We are officially artists. Society, family and even some friends (at least they call themselves so) think that all we do is to play around. Yes, you read it good “anyway you have nothing else to do just to play around all day long“. What seems to them – a kindergarten play time – is my job. I don’t go to my office from 9 till 5 but believe me I make a lot of effort. I am not whom I am, because of nothing. What I achieved I did so from my own power. Got no help whatsoever. So here is the thing: I love sharing, I love inspiring and I love helping but I don’t agree to be exploited! Period.
Here is what appears on my social medias:
Short statement:
I didn’t steal my diploma of design from the Academy, I studied for my degrees. I am an ARTIST in profession, it means I DON’T WORK FOR FREE, I don’t do favours. I have my price as every other work on the market. You don’t like it, don’t take it. Don’t try to convince me that I have to do it, believe me, I don’t. I am NOT a PUPPET OF ANYONE, and I DON’T LICK A***S! Art is not a sort of entertainment for me. It is my job, my call and my choice. You don’t want to pay, DON’T STEAL MY TIME! We, designers and artists, can be paid as well! Thanks for the understanding!
To whom it may concern. To whom not, don’t take it on. No need to like it.

Oh Dear !!!! …. That is just so splendid said … Just my words even I haven’t wrote them yet. I did in Danish a few years back, but it didn’t help lol.. so what did I do?… I began all over another place (internet) Did my own web sites, blog and such.. So THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH for saying this !!!!

  2. I feel so bad for you, that you had to make that statement. Nobody wants to be taken advantage of for any reason. I am an artist as well, so I can sympathize – possibly more than someone who is not an artist. I just want you to know how very much I love seeing your work.
My best to you……and I hope I will continue to see your beautiful work.

Sorry you have to deal with small minded cranks. Although its hard, I hope you can try to ignore stupidity. I love your art and appreciate your sharing of it. Some people have nothing more to offer than criticism of those who are gifted and creative.

Stupidity at it’s finest, and so sad for you. I am inspired daily by your art and your willingness to share it’s awesome creativity. I have just started art journaling, and I have always said that nobody works as hard as an artist, and I wish I had just a little of that work ethic. Keep on posting, please, as I would be lost without all your great texture ideas!!!

Annette don’t worry, I am not stopping I just want to make sure, that we as artists, gets paid for our work and not taken for simple handshakes! I promise you’ll see something new soon. Thanks for all the support 🙂

It is unfortunate that you have been pushed over the edge by some small minded, unkind, hurtful and unthinking individuals. You have nothing to prove, you know your worth and the effort required to achieve an outcome. It takes a lot of energy to be creative and courage to put your works of art out for all to see. Not everyone will enjoy or see the value in what we do and some will put us down for being creative.

I signed up for your emails yesterday because I so love your beeswax and tea leaf piece, found it inspiring and very beautiful. Also, love that you take valuable time to take process shots of your work so that we can see the many layers you build into a piece.

I hope you can sit with a cup of your favourite drink today and a notebook and reflect on all the wonderful accomplishments and contribution you make and how many people love what you do. Direct the energy from all those negative people into a beautiful piece of art and then shut the door on those who simply can’t understand you and your built-in desire to create.

    Sending a hug your way

Thanks Jaded, I really feel moved by your words. I stood up for each and every one of us, that the world will know it is time to see that we didn’t just stayed behind in the kindergarten time, but the opposite, maybe we try to express all that, that others doesn’t know how or doesn’t dare to. Instead of being exploited or simple used we should be respected and appreciated!

  6. Susan Carol says:

O dear, sorry to hear all this. I LOVE your art and look forward to seeing all your pieces.

  7. well said ! and never mind those who are ignorant !

I don’t know who or what was said and I am so sorry … just reading this made me so sad. It takes me days just to make one background – I am mortified by who caused you to do this. I am glad yu wrote this! People need to know! I am still unsure as to why rudeness exists…. if someone doesn’t like something – just unsubscribe or worse yet – don’t comment! What the heck is wrong with this world? I appreciate your blog and am a faithful reader and you inspire me!!!!

  9. Ahhh, Ruth, I hate you had to experience this. I came to painting after a crafty hobby background, and a successful career as a self employed graphic designer. It took SO much more effort to learn to paint than with anything I had done before. Harder than college…sewing…computers…fiber arts. AND has kept my interest and enthusiasm longer.
One of my favorite quotes from one of my master tutors when asked how long it took to paint a particular painting “three hours and thirty years”. I love your writing and art! Ignore the rude ones…obviously they are not blessed “makers”.

  10. Kay Wallace says:

This should not even need to be said, but, apparently, it does! You said it so well, Ruth!

  11. massofhair says:

Oh Ruth i am mortified reading you have been upset by some moron! I appreciate each and every snippet you share whether it be your ArT, your tips or other. I enjoy your blog very much and will continue to visit.

Please know that whoever/whatever upset you are not worth the anger. Hoping you have calmed & are not stressed.

    Sending Hugz:-) xxx
