Winter birds

Not all birds are leaving our land, the ones that are staying getting ready for the winter. Looking out from my roof window I can see them sitting close to each other, fluffing their feathers to keep themselves warm.

Vintage Journey keeps a challenge birds of a feather. I created a card, a winter card for the magical time of the year. I used a lot of distress techniques and my favourite Tim Holtz dies to bring back the sphere.

The card closed:

And the card open:

So here I was beginning with the purple layer to build, fold and distress:

I used Stampers Anonymous stamp (cms #132) to stamp my sentiment and cut two layers of labels (sizzix die #660060).

I applied them on the bottom inner side to hold my card standing with foam tape.

I used cameo frame die (#658570) to cut a white layer that I ran through the distress inked embossing folder.

The second time I used a bird cage paper from Tim Holtz paper stash with an oval in the middle to create a frame around my snow fall. The edges I distressed with brushed corduroy.

I stamped two birds not knowing which one to use with archival ink (cmd #181 and cms #086).

I wanted to have some feathers, but feathers that I made, so I used writing desk (#658717) to cut two feathers and I used distress inks (aged mahogany and dried marigold) to color them.

At the bottom of my snowy background I added some distress glitter (clear rock candy) with glossy accent to create some snow. Here is one of my birds with some snow:

And my other bird flying in:

The feather:

And finally a little bow made from some canvas fringe:

I would like to share my card with Craft hoarders anonymous challenge #21 where the theme is celebrate the season.

Wishing you all you are wishing for… this wonderful time of the year, magical december!

  11. Beautiful, Ruth. I love the snow and the feather, and the ribbon is….oh my! I miss watching the winter birds at the feeders. We have year round humming birds and some finches, and a few annoying crows…..that’s it. I do get to see the finches and hummers at the fountain in the morning. That’s fun. 😉 Thanks for sharing with us at Craft Hoarders Anonymous!
