Today I have an altered book page for you. On it a quote: “no one is free, even birds are chained to the sky” Bob Dylan.
As I said it is in my altered book, so sometimes I need to remove pages to be able to work in it. To prevent my book from falling apart I stick a thicker wash tape on the inner spine, usually the one that comes first in my hand, I also seal it with a layer of gesso, so it won’t suck too much.
I made the sides of my spread smaller, also wanted to get a torn edge effect. I continued to throw on it some scrap collage, scraps from the left overs on my desk and a few pieces of canvas as I love the texture the canvas gives to my spreads. Then I applied a layer of texture paste, into my paste I stamped with a fence texture stamp. I used Tattered Angels Glimmer mists to colour my spread (trunk bay and dragonfly and fully purple).
I wanted to play a bit more so I used my canvas pieces and I was cutting a canvas feather, yes a feather, everyone makes paper feathers, so I wanted to make a canvas feather and it worked. Then I thought this feather needs another embellishments, but if I have already had a custom feather I need a custom embellishment or not? So I decided to play further. I took a canvas fringe from Canvas Corp Brands and coloured it to pink with Glimmer mist (festival). Why not pink, I mean I always need to colour things… I dried it and even ironed my fringe as I wasn’t sure where my mojo will take me:
o that was my fringe coloured, trimmed and ironed. And then I took a needle and a thread and let my imagination free. I got a two layered flower with a button and a feather as end result.
The bigger petal is the fringe gathered original size, the smaller petal is app. half the size. The button holds the things together.
And it was just perfect for my little tag with my sentiment.
Aah, and the edges of my spread got distressed with distress ink as well.
There, there now you can see it better.
And if you need a list of the things I used:
texture paste
fence texture stamp
scrap leftovers
thread and button
distress ink aged mahogany and brushed corduroy.
i love to see what you have done. Great pages.
Thank you!
Gorgeous spread – love the feather result and the colours!
Thanks ๐
Absolutely stunning, Ruth! I love those ripped pages and dimensional elements. The quote is amazing too! Will have to look up that song!
Thanks Zsuzsa xox

Thanks Lisette ๐
Ruth loving ALL that is going on with this spread! Those textures of right on and I love those glimmer spray colors….especially that purple! I don’t have any glimmer mists, so it looks like I need to do a little shopping! LOL Happy Monday, my friend! ๐
Thanks Felicia, and yes, Glimmer mists are a most-have-ones, ๐
Love the stamping in the texture paste. To me it looks as if the feather is sitting on a hat.
Vicky, it can be a hat, a rosette or a flower, that’s good in a creative embellishment, everyone sees something else in it ๐
Beautiful. Wonderful texture as always. Your altered book must be amazing.
Thanks Susan, it’s pretty much a new one, I was beginning with it a month ago, so only a few pages, actually I have a few full ๐
Ruth, I too love the stamping in the paste- what a fab textural piece you have created! I love the quote you used- you always seem to find the right words for your pages! well done my friend! xo
