Deep in the forest

What is deep in the forest? Is it a scary, spooky places? Or is it a magical wonder world? Well in my fantasy it is definitely a magical world of all kinds of wild animals and creatures, and as my heart always went for winged things, this time couldn’t be others as well.

Take flight… into the great unknown… deep in the forest! That’s my imagination.

And it all began with a simple layer of gelli printed tissue paper on my spread:

Then I added some scrap left-overs and a piece of net, and blended all together with gesso.

I applied a layer of molding paste mixed with acrylics, through a forest stencil:

And then I used graphite texture paste to apply my first layer of winged creatures, some small birds. The ephemera and the text is from 7 dots studio.

And to add some more mystical creatures I used soft gel mixed with art sugar through Finnabair’s butterfly stencil. When it dried I added some shadows with charcoal.

And tadaah I took flight into the unknown deep in the forest:

I am sharing my spread with my friends at Art journal journey october’s prompt.

This is really good, I liked it the minute I saw it and read your introduction, then watched how you made it and this enhanced my view of the finished piece, it’s fascinating.
I especially like the winged creatures, the birds and butterflies.

Is it the colours..the textures…the images…the butterflies…or the words that I like best here?? Too tough to call – I love it all and art sugar? That’s a new one and sounds like something I should have, tell me more 🙂

Lisette, it’s Finnabair’s new mixed media line, when I saw those glitters and glass beads and art sugar with their blink-blink I said first no way, that’s not for me, I am the shabby distress guy. But then I saw her tutorials, where she is mixing all kinds of mediums with her art ingredients and then I said what the heck, it doesn’t need to blink, I can try to make them shine differently. And I am not really the measuring dude either, when I am cooking, I can’t follow instruction like ‘use 10 oz of blabla”… I use my eyes, so I took a bit of soft gel and a bit of this art sugar (white) and just mixed them in a small pot, then a palette knife and tadaah! Never say never my friend 😉
