“Come follow me, you troubled things
I’ll take you on my silver wings
To safety, to a lovely place
Where you can live in peace and grace.” Roald Dahl
This time Roald Dahl inspired me to this spread. Who doesn’t know the great story teller? Just to remind you: Charlie and the chocolate factory, Fantastic Mr Fox… I can’t help just to love his poems and rhymes. I had a few troubled scraps on my table so I took them and arranged them in a safe place, in my art journal.
So I made one layer of scrap collage, I dropped some shadows with pan pastel and I sealed them with transparent gesso.
Then I used some stamps with archival inks to add some more texture to it.
The blue netting I painted with Lindy’s stamp gang spray (baby blue eyes aqua).
The rhyme is written on an old notebook piece, that I further colorized with brushed corduroy distress ink. Then I applied some cambric underneath with beeswax, so the notebook piece became transparent and more fragile looking. I used 2 embellishments and some glue to add my text to my spread.
Finally the blue mirror pieces are made with beeswax and pigment on non-absorbent paper. I dropped some acrylic ink through the page:
And so my spread became a safe and lovely place to my troubled scraps.
I am sharing my page with Journal 52 prompt rhyme.
I have lots of “troubled” scraps – they’re in a big pile, almost like a mass grave! Perhaps I should try treating them with a bit more respect, LoL! An interesting layout, Ruth, it really draws you in.
Thanks Zsuzsa, so I gave you an idea, you need to open that mass grave 😉
Beautiful scrap journal pages- don’t they make the best when they are re-used like that?! xo
Exactly, I love recycling 😉
Great collage!
Thanks Susan!
As always such beautiful work!!! Keep inspiring!!
Thank you Danielle!
Wat prachtig weer. Sorry mijn engels is niet zo goed dus even zo. Je werk inspireert me en deze in het bijzonder raakt me diep. Hoe je telkens weer woorden en gevoel omvormt in beeld is Kunst. Dank je voor het delen van je niet aflatende enthousiasme en passie.🎨
Dank u Lydia!
This is so gorgeous! I love all the beautiful texture you achieved.
Thank you Elizabeth!
Love it, Ruth! Scraps become a work of art!! Was it also inspired by Roald Dahl day (Sept 13)?
No Christina, not in any special connection to days, he is just one of my childhood favorites 😉
Its a beautiful collage, has great strength and texture. hugs
Thanks 😉
You’ve chosen a fabulous prompt – that were new to me and I love this idea as a starting point. The end result is terrific. I have logged all the references to beeswax – time to plug in the melt pot I think 🙂
Beeswax is a real winter treat, love the smell of it, when it’s rainy and cold outside, so I think as we go into the autumn I am going to play more with it, have some plans, need some time only
Love the inspiration and the artwork!
Congrats – you’ve been featured at Inspire Me Monday at Create With Joy!
Thanks, it’s always an honor to be a part of Inspire Me Monday 😉
