Blackbird

Blackbird was inspired by the Beatles song Blackbird, of course. Nights are getting longer and darkness takes over, but if you really open your eyes you’ll see the sparkling lights and suddenly all the darkness fades. So this week art journal page goes about darkness and light:

Blackbird fly… into the light of the dark black night…

Background: gelli printed

Bird and text: threshold image transfer, black pastel, black marker

Dandelions: modeling paste, dylusion ink

Lovely work. May I ask what is a “threshold image transfer”? I have never heard of that.

Of course, Roberta. You take any photo and make a threshold image out of it with photoshop, print on ink or laser jet, let it dry. After it’s dry apply one layer of gel medium, I use Golden Artist (not a commercial not getting paid for it, but works the best), if you want a sharper image use gloss, if a faded, then use matte. Let it dry again. Apply another layer of gel medium, put it on the surface and let it dry again. Then take a soft fabric, make the image wet and rub the paper down. Time consuming because of the drying, but gives nice effect. The image is mirrored, you put it face down, so think about it!
