“I will not make any more boring art” – a brief history of John Baldessari

John Baldessari, who is actually John Baldessari? Is he a painter, a printmaker, a sculptor or a photographer? Well, he is all together, a conceptual artist who refuses to make boring art. He has created thousands of works that demonstrate the narrative potential of images and the associative power of language within the boundaries of the work of art.

This documentary made by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman is intriguing throughout — the complete opposite of boring art, and it is a witty, well-paced and inspiring highlight reel of Baldessari’s career, complete with his list of 3 things every young artist should know:

1) Talent is cheap.

2) You have to be possessed, which you can’t will.

3) Being at the right place at the right time.

Conclusion: be possessed and open your eyes!
