The Soul of the Master

Tonight the Plantin-Moretus Museum opened its doors for us and we could visit the exhibition “The Soul of the Master“. The purpose of this exhibition is to show the wealth of the collection of drawings held by the Print Room.

“Drawing is an intimate occupation. An artist uses drawing to put a first impression on paper, a fleeting pose, a snapshot, an emotion. It is a quick way of capturing a flow of thoughts and structuring ideas. In a drawing, the artist bares his soul more than in other media.”

Eleven guest curators were asked to compile the exhibition. They have brought together drawings by old masters and contemporary work, made some surprising thematic links and saw affinities of style, composition or line across the centuries. Tonight we could meet one of them, Kaatje Vermeire, who gave us explanation about her choice of drawings and a bit of an insight into her own illustrations.

It is possible to view the collection of the Print Room at www.museumplantinmoretus.be.

Appreciation to all who organized this great inspirational night!
