The assignment Typo composition is all around letters of course. We got a set of letter types, we need to choose a few and come up with a composition where the letters are not important anymore and the text is not readable rather it becomes an image.
For inspiration we have 2 artists. The first one is Cecil Touchon. He is a contemporary American collage artist and painter. He assembles a collage and then “paints a picture”, the results are visually fascinating, and conceptually rigorous and interesting.
Here are a few examples, more to find on http://cecil.touchon.com
Robert Kelly is the second artist. “Kelly compares his work method to the practice of a stonemason building a wall, setting the components in place as they rise with an astuteness and precision found in the process of composing formal puzzles” Edward Leffingwell. “…by disassembling and then reassembling the pieces, Kelly seems to undermine visual ‘completeness’ by a fragmented presentation. Yet it nonetheless feels as though the image is a cohesive whole.” Melissa Kuntz

What left, just to cut and paint…
